The Unique Pattern of Japanese Americans

With a stunning decrease of 9.4 in a 10 year span the Japanese American population is shrinking at an alarming rate (Asian). With every popular anime show on adult swim, must have video game, popular sushi bar and karaoke bar one would believe the impact of Japanese immigration was at an all time boom. The fact that according to statistics from Japans own census bureau 315,976 Japanese nationals had been in the United States in 2002 is a staggering contrast to the 33312 the United States counted as permanent migrants. These statistics along with the domestic born Japanese-American population tell a unique story on assimilation and economic trends.
